Tying her own shoes
December 19, 2010I always knew that a day would come when it would take forever to get out the door because she would want to tie her own shoes and do it herself. While shoe tying is a great ambition, it is nice to be able to just get out the door and get somewhere.
The shoe tying day has come. She doesn’t want to tie her shoes yet, but she does want to walk everywhere. She started walking at 11 months and hasn’t looked back. Why go in the stroller when you can walk? Sometimes she will still go in, but mostly there is a lot of back arching and sliding out the bottom before I can get her strapped in. I used to be able to get her in by giving her forbidden highly sought after objects such as cell phones and keys, but now even that doesn’t work. She is more willing to go into the Ergo and so we use that a lot. I am thinking that maybe we need some kind of tricycle that I can push? I don’t know. Any suggestions for something that she might be more willing to travel in?
You might laugh, but today I tried getting her to walk to where we were trying to go. We didn’t go anywhere, she just wanted to stick her fingers in the gutter drain and make the automatic doors open. I am thinking we are going to quit trying to go the park and just start playing in the front yard and on the sidewalk.
Moving my life on line
December 13, 2010When I started to get ready to head back to work I got serious about how save more weekend time for us as a family instead of running around doing errands and so I started to do as many things as I could on-line. I found out we could email in our grocery list to the store we love to shop at and they will deliver for free if it is over 50$. This has been fantastic.

I also love Etsy. A while a ago I got her a great swim suit from here. The woman that makes it really knows how to set up snaps. Bee’s adorable bumble bee bikini will fit her until she doesn’t need a swim diaper anymore. Oh and yes, in case you were wondering I am the kindof mom that will put her baby in a bikini so that we can both wear them together when we go swimming. I love bikini’s and won’t swim in anything else
I also got her carseat online and got a great price, free shipping and a travel bag included. While I mostly get her clothes at the thrift store it is tough to get good pajamas so I ordered her pajamas and a few other things online.
In Canada it is a little harder to do things on line. Most things are US and the duty and shipping makes it not worth while, but I am building up my online empire of services and things I need to buy and loving it!
An hour of power
December 8, 2010Ok it’s not an hour. I am not going to be the next Jackie Warner, but I am aiming for 45 minutes at the gym Tuesday nights. Phew. It ain’t easy. F had to seriously kick my pathetic butt out the door tonight. It is dark and raining and that is a mighty beast I fight every winter here. The darkness weighs down on me.
Right now I feel great. I went to the gym. I did have to eat several spoonfuls of Nutella straight from the jar because I am so very tired by the time Bee is in bed in order to get there, but I did it. I saw my favorite fitness center staff person who was so positive and encouraging and said 45 minutes is plenty and reminded me to superset it and gave me a few pointers.
I am also thrilled to no longer be pumping at work. I can’t tell you how happy I am. I don’t know how you American mama’s do for so long. The Bee is still a crazy nursing baby, but she is drinking some cow’s milk mixed with breastmilk during the day and nursing before and after work. Luckily I still have some milk left in the freezer for her milk cocktails.
I don’t have an hour for lunch, but now I am no longer pumping at work I do have 30 minutes. My mission is to go outside for at least a short walk. My office is so heavy with grief right now for a co-worker who is so very sick and I need some air to be able to get through the day.
So this is a funny post of bits and pieces and an hour of time is unheard of in my life, but I am eeking out a few bits and pieces here and there and rock’in whatever I can get.
What’s your hour of power (even it is just 5 minutes of something)?
