Dreams

January 20, 2011

I had a plan. It seemed like a great idea. Basically my plan was to do this.

The reality. Bee hates the snowsuit, doesn’t like mittens and most of the time refuses to sit in the stroller. She wants to walk. If we managed to get her into the snowsuit, mittens and trailer, I could see the whole process breaking down somewhere out on a cross country ski trail with her screaming, refusing to stay in the trailer, taking off her mittens and hat and then needing to be carried. This would all be managed while I am on skiis and pulling the trailer. I think the only way I could look the like the picture would be to just take the trailer and leave Bee at the ski lodge with F.

I am letting go of the dream and embracing reality. I sold the fancy skiis for the bike trailer and bought a cheap toboggan. We are going to go a very short distance and play in the snow together. This weekend is the queer family ski trip. I can’t wait. This is the kind of thing I used to dream about on about when we were doing fertility treatments. Going makes me pause and realize how lucky we are and cross my fingers even harder for those that are still waiting for two lines on a stick.

Dealing with diapers

January 18, 2011

I never thought I would be one of those people that can’t deal with a diaper. Everything started out fine. The first six months I never minded changing her. I changed her all the time. I love her and the cloth diapers we have. It was lovely. Then I had to start feeding her something other than breastmilk. Eww. Poopy diapers were a whole new experience. It wasn’t working for me.

At seven months I made a bold move that has brought us to where we are today. One day I saw that baby about to do a poo, picked her up and pulled off the diaper, handed her to F who put her on the potty. No point watching her go in the cloth diaper right? That was how it all started. Here we are 7 months later and she still poos on the toilet about 98% of the time. She has a potty seat that we bought her that she really likes. We play with all different kinds of things in the bathroom while she sits on the potty. She likes it.

It is pretty obvious when she needs to go and we have also started to put her on the potty as part of her before naps and and bed routine. That has really helped too. She will hold number two now until she is on the potty. She often pees on the potty as well. There are still lots of wet diapers and she isn’t anywhere near toilet trained and diaper free, but it seems like we are a few steps in that direction. I know one day she might go through something or another and she might start refusing, but so far it is looking pretty great. Even if that that does happen, I have enjoyed 7 months of potty action and no poopy diapers.

The closet

A travelling dream come true….a closet big enough for the hotel crib. I had to collapse it and rebuild it inside the closet to get it in there, but it fits and the door shuts. Heaven. She has already taken a nap in there. I love this hot springs hotel.

Believe it not

January 12, 2011

What a morning. She slept all the way through until 5 45 am. No 4am snack attack. And i slept. Sometimes when she finally sleeps through i still wake up. This was the longest uninterrupted sleep i have had since she was born.
After she woke she nursed for a bit and then decided to read her abc book. Maybe she will not nurse until college. Then she walked to the potty, i lifted her on and she went pee.
That is my very real and most excellent morning.

Rock, paper, chicken pox?

January 6, 2011

I make a surprising number of decisions by rock, paper, scissors. At times, an almost shocking amount. Now this brings me to the topic of vaccines, and not just any vaccines, but the one year vaccinations. A highly controversial topic. Some people do thoughtful research. Some people think about researching it, procrastinate, do a little, figure no one really knows anyway and just make an appointment hoping it all works out. That’s me.

Here we are at the nurses office with Bee, a pile of needles lined up and F and I have still not totally decided what we are doing. F was for Bee getting the chicken pox that day, and I thought we should wait until 18 months. How do we decide? Rock, papers scissors. We didn’t even do best out of three, just 1,2,3 make your move and a decision is made. Bee got the chicken pox vaccine. A short time later her good friend gets Chicken Pox. The nurse we called says that’s enough time for Bee to become immunized.

Rock on rock, paper, scissors!

10 things

January 1, 2011

I was tagged by Two Girls Path to Parenthood to list 10 things about Bee that most bloggers wouldn’t know. I have decided to let Bee do the talking on this one…..

Phew. She types up a storm. I have run it through the translator and here are her answers.

1. My real name is not Bee. It is Peanut and my last name is Powers so mama mostly calls me Peanut or Peanut Powers.

2. I have two wo-wo’s (dogs) that come to visit. I love them and every that comes with them; their water bowls, eating their food, putting their leashes around my neck and snuggling up in the stinky dog bed.

3. My favorite food is oranges. I can eat them all day until my tummy hurts. I don’t care though. I still want more.

4. My mama and mamee could be on fail blog for some of the things they have done. One time they gave me a knife to play with at the food court. It was plastic, but still I could have poked my eye out. Another time mama watched me walk around with a blanket on my head. She said it was so cute and funny that she forgot to stop me from walking into the table and bumping my head.

5. Mama said she is worried I will nurse until college. What is college? Why would there be no milk at college?

6. Speaking of milk….I have a snack attack at 4am every morning. Yup. I still do. I wake up, then I get a little milk and fall right back asleep again. Mama is not sure what to do about this.

7. The cat Moumee almost bit my whole head off. Mama said it was like watching the nature Chanel where the snake has a really small head, but then suddenly it opens its mouth so wide it can eat a whole pig. I still love Moumee and put my head on her so I can feel her soft fur.

Hmmm I am running out of things to write about. My mama tells all on this blog.

I am stopping here and tagging my friend Kai at The Bean Family .
