I have been putting compost in my purse or lunchbag or whatever I happen to be carrying with me. It sounds worse than it is. Rather than throw away banana peel, orange peel or apple cores I have been bringing them home and chucking them in the compost. I usually have a container with me so it isn’t messy. One more teeny tiny step to reducing waste and getting back to my tree hugging roots. There is nothing more earthy than carrying compost in your purse.
I seem to be in a changing the world time in my life both professionally and personally. Rather than just quietly muddle along reducing waste I wrote the city to ask for an expanded food scraps pickup program. I will write to your city too if you send me their email address.

Hey there! Are you interested in vermicomposting? My brother gave me some worms for Christmas (just sounds wrong) after I expressed an interest in them.
It’s a cool way to reduce waste AND you can use the casings and “tea” in your own garden.
A guy I know at work almost has no trash at all these days. It’s pretty cool.
And thank you for you words regarding my grandmother.
Makes it so much easier to know that you all are out there.
Take care!
I compost in my car and have been known to purse-compost as well. I have a hard time throwing food scraps away anywhere. We are fortunate to be in a county that composts everything but large trees, so if it weren’t for our compost pile, we could use our yard waste bin for any compostibles. I love it.
In short, hooray for compost!
